Real-Time Noise Analyser Applications
As the P33 can be configured in so many different ways, it
is suitable for almost any noise measurement application. For
general noise surveys, the meter operates in "broadband" mode,
providing you with the LAeq, which is usually
the most important parameter. However, at the same time it can
store other parameters, such as the C-weighted Leq (LCeq),
Peak, Fast, Slow and Impulse weighted Sound Level and the statistical
Ln (L90, etc.) values.
When you need to make a frequency analysis, the switch the
meter to Octave
Band mode or, for more detail, 1/3
Octave Band Mode. In this setting it can measure the
average spectrum over a period of time, or can even store the
spectrum every 1/8 second (125 ms). These measurements can be
used for assessing machinery noise (tonal content), environmental
surveys and hearing protection assessments. |

Machinery Noise and Noise at Work
 |
The P33, either in Class
1 or Class 2 form is more than adequate for any occupational
noise survey. The European Noise at Work Regulations state
that a Class 2 meter is adequate (P33-2) but of course
you can use the more accurate Class 1. The real-time octave
band measurements can be used for checking the suitability
of hearing protectors. For other meters that are suitable
for this type of application please visit our Noise
at Work page.
You do not need 1/3 Octave Band Filters for a noise at work
survey but having them available means you are equipped for
assessing machinery (bearing noise, etc.), environmental,
boundary and any other type of noise measurement that
you may need to carry out. If you only need Octave Bands
then please visit the P30 Real
Time Octave Band Analyser page. |
Environmental Noise Measurement
| The P33 Analyser comes complete with the environmental
noise measurement parameters built in. It can measure the periodic
LAeq and L90, as required by many standards such BS4142. It
also stores many other parameters, some of which are needed
now and some of which may be needed in future standards. |

 |
When tonal noise may be an issue for a factory, wind farm
or wind turbine, the meter can measure the 1/3 octave band
spectrum (or a series of spectra from 125ms upwards) so that
you can assess the problem with accuracy. |

| The Outdoor
Noise Measurement Kits equip the P33 so that it can be
left unattended in poor weather conditions for longer term
noise surveys. |
